The Foundation awarded £4,000 in May 2018 towards the purchase of a brand new wheelchair accessible minibus to enable this busy centre to ferry more disabled residents to and from its centre on a daily basis.
The Charles Young Centre, which has been running for over 35 years in Tyne and Wear, South Tyneside, prepares an affordable three course meal every day for the elderly, the socially isolated and the disabled. It also hosts a large number of weekly events for its 90 members which include line dancing, table tennis, bingo, carpet bowls and even tap dancing. This is the third minibus that the Centre runs and its services are in constant demand. The Centre works with the local hospital, Age Concern and social services to ensure that it is reaching as many vulnerable and isolated members of the community as possible.
