The Foundation gave £10,000 in November 2017 towards the creation of a new academy for adults with learning disabilities that provides practical life skills and learning courses to enable students to live more independent lives.
The new, purpose-built facility is situated on Highlands Farm in Woodchurch, Kent and is run by the Canterbury Oast Trust. It is three times the size of the charity’s previous college and provides four bright, open plan classrooms, a communal area and a dedicated one to one study area. The Academy can now teach up to 100 students at a time and provides an encouraging and supportive learning environment that aims to boost confidence in literacy, numeracy, information technology and day to day practical skills.
