In June 2018, the Foundation awarded £50,000 towards the building costs of this new, state of the art youth centre, in Barnet, North London, which opened a year later in June 2019.
This is an inspiring, affordable and well designed space for young people aged 8 to 19 to meet, socialise, exercise, stay healthy, raise their confidence, learn many new skills and get support with their future employment. The range of facilities include a 3G all weather pitch, sports hall and gym as well as a dance studio, music room with recording suite, training kitchen and health and well being room. Barnet Youth Zone is run by 50 staff and many volunteers from the local community and is open seven days a week and throughout the school holidays. It is a partnership between the business community, the local authority, the local community and crucially the young people of the area.
Unitas, Barnet Youth Zone is part of the OnSide Youth Zone network of clubs which have developed 11 other incredible centres across the UK in places such as Wolverhampton, Wigan, Manchester and Carlisle, where young people are most in need of a space to meet, to raise their aspirations and broaden their horizons.
